In the adventure game Ghost Trick, players take control of Sissel, a ghost who utilizes his otherworldly abilities to save lives. Players can freely switch between the Ghost World, where time is halted, and the Land of the Living, where time moves forward naturally, between gameplay phases. Sissel can move between things within a specific radius in the Ghost World. These items are denoted by blue cores, and Sissel can animate them to carry out "Ghost Tricks"—opening new passageways or influencing other characters—in the Land of the Living. For instance, shifting a tray of donuts will cause a character to shift seats and open up new locations for Sissel to explore.
